JUBA, JANUARY 19, 2026 — President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Vice President for Economic Cluster Dr. James Wani Igga reiterated their unwavering commitment to addressing the current challenges facing the country, including security, the economy, and preparations for the upcoming polls.
The two leaders announced this during a meeting held at the Presidency on Monday, where they discussed the current political, security, and economic situation in the country, with emphasis on achieving stability ahead of the general elections due in December this year.
Dr. Igga also briefed President Kiir on the recently concluded Mundari Cultural Festival, describing it as a vital forum that promotes unity and peaceful coexistence among communities, with the government rallying citizens behind peace and reconciliation.
Vice President James Wani Igga, who serves as SPLM First Deputy Chairman, also updated the President on internal party matters, focusing on organisational issues critical to strengthening the SPLM’s role in South Sudan’s political process.
The meeting comes as the government works to consolidate peace and guide the country toward stability and a prosperous future.
